Pronoms Réfléchis
Pronouns - pro·nouns - are used to replace a noun: pro means for, or replacing in Latin.
A reflexive pronoun is used to replace another person or thing (to you, to them) when the action is done to self (to me) or to . Reflexive pronouns are used with French pronominal - or reflexive - verbs such as SE RÉVEILLER, S’APPELER, … See the list of such reflexive verbs here.
Examples
- Je me réveille. I’m waking [myself] up.
- Je t’appelle. I’m calling you up.
Short list of common reflexive verbs
- s’amuser …. to have fun (to amuse oneself)
- s’appeler …. to be named, to call oneself or one another
- s’asseoir …. to sit (oneself) down
- s’occuper de …. to take care of, to mind, to attend to
- se coucher …. to go to bed
- se demander …. to wonder or to ask one another
- se parler …. to talk to oneself or to each other
- se passer …. to pass itself = to happen
- se promener …. to walk oneself = to take a stroll
- se réveiller …. to wake up or to wake someone up
- se voir …. to see one another
- se lever …. to get up
- se moquer de …. to make fun of
- se marier …. to get married
- se taire …. to not say
