rire jaune - Mot du Jour
to fake laugh – French expression
Part of Mots Du Jour | Expressions With RIRE
rire jaune – to laugh yellow. In everyday French, rire jaune means that you’re laughing even though you’re disappointed or angry, you don’t mean to laugh.
It actually doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re laughing in any way at all. ‘to fake laugh’ or ‘to feel disappointed’ or ‘to feel angry without expressing that anger upfront’ are all good translations for rire jaune.
- « Elle a ri jaune quand tu lui as dit que tu ne partais pas en vacances avec elle. »
- ‘She felt angry when you told her you weren’t going on vacation with her.’
