Overview of the main officials language proficiency tests
There are many placement tests out there. We are focusing on officials tests you can take to evaluate your French, whether it be for yourself, to enter a French/Francophone university or if you wish to become a citizen.
The DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) and DALF (DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education to prove the French-language skills of non-French candidates.
There are six DELF // DALF independent diplomas, which correspond, respectively, to the six levels and/or audiences of the Council of Europe’ s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). Anybody can take these placement tests.
DELF tout public Diplôme d’études en langue française - Public: adults Levels evaluated: A1 to B2
DALF Diplôme approfondi de langue française - Public: adults Levels evaluated: C1 to C2. To my understanding, DALF reflects a very high-level of proficiency in French, close to native speaking.
DELF Pro Diplôme d’études en langue française “option professionnelle” - Public: candidates seeking initial employment opportunities or promotion within a French-speaking work environment Levels evaluated: A1 to B2
DELF Prim Diplôme d’études en langue française - Public: children learning French as a Foreign Language at primary school (7 to 12 years old) Levels evaluated: A1.1, A1, A2
DELF junior Diplôme d’études en langue française - Public: preadolescent and adolescent candidates in secondary school (12 to 17 years old) Levels evaluated: A1 to B2
DELF scolaire Diplôme d’études en langue française - Public: preadolescent and adolescent candidates in secondary school (12 to 17 years old) Levels evaluated: A1 to B2
TEF - Test d’Evaluation du Français
TCF - Test de connaissance du français - Public: anybody who wishes to assess their French language skills for personal, academic or professional reasons
TCF - Test de connaissance du français
TCF pour l’accès à la nationalité française - TCF is another placement test you take if you’re aiming to French nationality - Public: anybody who needs to justify their level of French if they are applying for French nationality
You can take the tests as many times as you want in an Alliance Française near you. Not all AF offer all the tests. Anne can help you succeed in all of them. Ask for a free conversation with her.

Beth is asking: “Comment écrire, ‘I didn’t know that’? Should there be an ‘en’ in that sentence?”
Here are 2 common ways to say that.
Je ne savais pas. — Je savais pas.
Je n’en savais rien. — J’en savais rien.
I hope that helps.
À plus, Beth.
