trois plombes - a long time - Mot du Jour

une plombe is familiar French for une heure - an hour. Sometimes, it’s used with another number - often three for some reason, and then it means “a long long time, forever.”

• « Il fait vraiment trop froid et je ne vais pas t’attendre dehors pendant trois plombes. »
  • “It’s too cold, really, and I’m not gonna wait forever outside for you.”
