Hunting for Exclamation Points!

This week, I’m in an IPFrance Immersion week. Next week, too, by the way.

I did this quiz on French numbers with Mike, and I’m putting it on free access for you.

I love being in an IPFrance session. Mike came to make progress in French with me in Brittany. He arrived on Sunday afternoon – he may tell you about his adventure at the Montparnasse train station – and we settled in at the farm.

The next day, Mike was eager to put into practice the French he has learned so far on his own. We then set our goals to learn French for the week, and off we went!

We headed towards town right away. He threw himself into the French language with a little exercise I created for him. He aced it. :–)

Mike is a real wine connoisseur. Look at him that night. He is so enthusiastic about wine that he took us out to a restaurant where we tasted a very good wine. He has no trouble jumping in and having some fun. He is friendly to everyone everywhere: the chocolatier, the pharmacist, and, of course, the proprietors of all the local wine shops. When we pass in front of their stores, they wave a big “Hi” to us. Mike even chats with random passers-by.

As for me, what I really enjoy about Mike is that he’s a hunter. He hunts…French road signs during our walks and our field trips. He loves to look at the signs. He often wonders what they mean. They are all interesting to him, but the one he prefers is the exclamation point, which simply means that cars should be careful.

He already has found two of them, and the week is not over. When he finds one, he insists that I park as quickly as possible. He gets out of the car and runs towards the sign. I pray that no car comes our way. He says he takes the pictures of the signs for his collection.

So, I don’t know how many he’ll find by the end of the week. I’ll tell you later, if you’re interested. He may even share his collection with you. :–)

Chasseur de Points d’Exclamation !

Je suis en IPFrance cette semaine. La semaine prochaine aussi, d’ailleurs.

Je vous propose donc aujourd’hui en accès libre, une leçon sur les chiffres que j’ai faite avec Mike.

J’adore être en IPFrance. Mike est venu faire des progrès en français avec moi en Bretagne. Il est arrivé dimanche après-midi – il vous racontera peut-être son aventure à la gare Montparnasse – et nous nous sommes installés à la ferme.

Dès le lendemain, Mike était très pressé de mettre le français qu’il avait appris tout seul jusque-là en pratique. Nous avons donc établi nos buts pour l’apprentissage du français, et hop, c’était parti !

Nous sommes donc allés en ville tout de suite. Il s’est baigné de la langue française avec un petit exercice que j’avais concocté pour lui, avec brio :–)

Mike est vraiment connaisseur en vins. Regardez-le le soir-même. Il m’a invité au restau et on a goûté une très bonne bouteille. Voyez comme il est à l’aise, il se lance et s’amuse bien. Il se fait des amis partout : la chocolatière, la pharmacienne, et bien sûr, tous les cavistes du coin. Quand on passe devant leurs magasins, ils nous font un grand coucou. Il bavarde même avec les passants dans la rue.

Et moi, ce qui m’amuse bien avec Mike, c’est qu’il est chasseur : il chasse… les panneaux routiers français. Lors de nos marches alentour, ou de nos excursions, il adore les regarder. Il me demande souvent ce qu’ils veulent dire. Ils ont tous un intérêt à ses yeux, mais celui qu’il préfère, c’est le point d’exclamation. Le point d’exclamation veut tout simplement dire qu’il faut faire attention.

Il en a déjà trouvé deux, et la semaine n’est pas finie. Quand on en trouve, il insiste pour que je me gare le plus vite possible, il sort de la voiture et il court vers le panneau – moi, je prie pour qu’il n’y ait pas de voiture en face – et il prend le panneau en photo, pour sa collection, me dit-il.

Alors je ne sais pas combien il en trouvera jusqu’à la fin de la semaine, mais je vous le dirai plus tard, si ça vous intéresse. Il partagera peut-être même sa collection avec vous :–)
