avoir eu chaud – Mot du Jour

avoir eu chaud – to have had hot. avoir eu chaud means ‘to be lucky to have escaped a catastrophe’. I like to translate it as ‘That was close!’ or ‘It was close!’ A synonymous expression is ‘l’avoir échappé belle’.

  • « Vous avez eu chaud. Il a commencé à pleuvoir juste après votre balade. »
  • It was close. It started to rain just after your walk.
