les vœux or les voeux - Mot du Jour

les vœux - the wishes. The expression often refers to New Year’s greetings. French people prefer to send New Year’s greetings cards in January rather than season’s greetings cards at the end of the year. The card generally only says “Bonne année et bonne santé” - Happy New Year and good health - there is no letter with it. It has a signature at the bottom. Just that.

  • “Her feelings are hurt because you have not yet sent your new year’s greetings yet. “
