young generation – French expression
What does ” djeunes” mean? How do you say ‘ young generation ’ in French? How is is pronounced? How is it used in a French sentence? Listen to me, a French native say it.
“djeunes” is a good illustration of the funny path French is taking these days. You won’t find this in your textbook. I started hearing “djeunes” a few years ago. The spelling can be ‘djeunes’, ‘d’jeunes’, or ‘djeuns’. It seems to always have an S at the end, though.
In fact, you won’t see djeunes written down much. djeunes is nothing but ” jeunes ” pronounced with a fake English accent. Go figure ! In everyday French, djeunes means “the young generation, young people.”
- « Ça, c’est une zique pour les djeunes. »
- “That’s a tune for the young generation.”

You’re right Ann, many words or expressions are never taught at school while this is real French and definitely the language we speak in our everyday life.
I wrote an article myself about the most common French slang words and sayings. I had a lot of fun writing it so I hope you’ll enjoy it too! 😉
