What are winter sports in French?

Voici une liste de vingt sports d’hiver. Comme vous pouvez le voir, beaucoup de sports français ont emprunté leur nom à la langue anglaise. La plupart font partie de ce qu’on appelle les « sports de glisse » qui incluent le surf, le ski, le skateboard.

Je limite cette liste aux sports d’hiver de glisse.

Here is a list of twenty winter sports. As you can see, a lot of the French sports borrowed their names to the English language. Most of them are part of what is called “sports de glisse” – sliding sports, boardsports – which includes surfing, skiing, skateboarding.

The most common verb used to say ‘to practice a sport’ is FAIRE de/du– quite irregular. If you want to say ‘to play a sport’, use JOUER de/du.
