Bastille Day – Harmful Toys

Despite the authorities’ warnings, firecrackers, rockets, fireworks and other explosives that cause regular serious injuries and fires are coming back as the Bastille Day festivities are coming close.

“These entertainment fireworks represent a real danger because of their strong projection power, in case they are aimed towards people or properties. They can cause serious wounds to the eyes or to the hands when they are handled, and they often provoke fires, recalls the Paris police headquarters this week.

Moreover, the throwing of pyrotechnic machinery aiming towards the police and towards people in general, or towards buildings soared last year in the French capital city with 325 shootings during the nights of July 13 and 14 against 135 the year before that.

In any case, heavy-duty fireworks are not sold to the general public, and the authorities have issued a decree to ban the sale and the transportation of such fireworks and firecrakers for the general public just before Bastille Day, as well as on New Year’s Eve, in order to avoid assaults against police forces and police cars.
