Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

In France, we have no celebration similar to Thanksgiving. In North America, however, it is for many people the most cherished of holidays. On Thanksgiving, family and friends gather around a sumptuous meal, most often consisting of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and squash, with pumpkin pie for dessert.

Both the tradition and the meal itself stretch back to the earliest days of European settlements in North America, in 17th century. After surviving their first harsh New England winter the colonists and the Native Americans, whose help made their survival possible, celebrated with a banquet that became known as Thanksgiving.

Here are a series of lessons on Thanksgiving that will help you to improve your French.
