French Verbs And Their Prepositions

French Verbs and their Prepositions

Les verbes et les prépositions

Should we say?

C’est difficile à lire.

C’est difficile de lire.

Je cherche ø la sortie.

Je cherche pour la sortie.

Such a pain to figure out!

The most annoying French prepositions, or little words, are À and DE. We’ll start with those two; before a verb; their uses with adjectives, food, etc. Then we’ll go over French verbs that don’t take any preposition, and those that take À, DE, POUR, PAR, CONTRE, DANS, EN, SUR and VERS.

This course is inspired by questions from my dear students.

Quelle préposition ?

Doit-on dire ?

  1. Bonjour Anne,
I have been working on this course for several days. As you have pointed out, French prepositions are tricky and often different from English usage. To be able to go back to the quizzes again and again is a big plus. I find it useful to read the sentences aloud so that the sound of the verb and preposition together get into my head.
All in all, an excellent course! Merci, Pam
