Grapes harvest began yesterday – FrenchHour Blog

Grapes harvest began yesterday in France. In the coming days and weeks, little by little, each village will be allowed by the government to give its first shears’ cut.

Wine is a tradition that the French follow rigorously. It’s almost a national sport. Each region is proud of their grape varietal and defends it tooth and nail.

Perfect timing, because the other day, Douglas, a long time student, sent me this article by Caitlin Morton, the title of which is “Alcohol Improves Your Foreign Language Skills, Says New Study”.

She seems to think that “the subjects who were slightly intoxicated received better ratings than their sober colleagues, particularly when it came to pronunciation”, and that “one possible mechanism could be the anxiety-reducing effect of alcohol”.

So let’s be tipsy, ‘gay’ as we say in French, and take this free quiz on Wine and the French to learn French this week.
