 les pieds sur Terre — down to Earth — Mot du Jour

les pieds sur terre – the feet on earth. In everyday French, les pieds sur terre  means ‘avoir du bon sens’, ‘être réaliste.’ ‘sensible’, ‘practical’, ‘reasonable’,  ‘down-to-earth’, ‘to have your feet on the ground’. The opposite would be ‘avoir la tête dans les nuages’, ‘to have your head in the clouds’.

  • « Il faut avoir les pieds sur Terre : on ne peut pas faire du kayak et faire une rando dans la même journée. »
    • “You have to be down-to-earth: you can’t go kayaking and go hiking on the same day.”
