être en marche – to be going forward – Mot du Jour à FrenchHour
être en marche – to be in walking. In Everyday French, être en marche can mean to be progressing, be going forward, to be on her/his way en marche is also used with mettre: mettre en marche, se mettre en marche. In that case, it almost always means ‘to be on, lit, functioning’, for a machine.
- « Ce candidat a obtenu le plus de votes aux élections. Il est en marche vers la présidence. »
- “This candidate obtained the most votes in the elections. He is on his way to the presidency.”
- “This candidate obtained the most votes in the elections. He is on his way to the presidency.”
