Out with quick and easy French!

As a new-to-the-idea-of-learning-French student, one might get caught in a maze of tantalizing advertisements, both in real life and online.

One might first wonder: “Hum… should I try the Alliance Française in the neighboring town?” Or one might ask: “I heard about a French teacher my friend is going to. Should I give that approach a try?”

Searching for the right fit on the net is even more difficult. A plethora of sites exists – good ones and those that are not so good. Which is the right one?

But there is a consistent pitch I keep on hearing, and it goes like this: “Learn French quickly and easily.”, or “Learn French in 3 weeks”.

Today, I’m going to tell you the unvarnished truth: NO, you cannot learn French quickly and easily. Don’t kid yourself, don’t be fooled!

Say no to quick French – it’s a lie – and say no to easy French.

Frankly, what can possibly be easy about learning a language that strings the 3 vowels E, A, and U together to make the simple sound O, or that has a word – PLUS – that means both ‘more’ and its opposite ‘no more’ at the same time?

So, I wouldn’t say I’m giving you long and painful worksheets at FrenchHour. That would probably quickly drive you away. But don’t let yourself be fooled.

FrenchHour gives you short practice (that my version of quick French) exercises that will bring you step by step, slowly but surely (that where FrenchHour’s worksheet are easy French) from one level to the next – as long as you stay around and enjoy it.

If your goal is to understand the French people and speak with them, FrenchHour is the best fit for you, although not quick and easy :–)

En tant qu’élève de français débutant, on peut facilement se retrouver dans un labyrinthe d’annonces alléchantes, à la fois dans la vie réelle et sur le net.

On pourrait d’abord se demander : « Hum … dois-je essayer l’Alliance Française dans la ville voisine ? » Ou on pourrait se demander : « J’ai entendu parler d’un prof de français par une amie. Dois-je essayer avec elle ? »

Trouver le bon cours en ligne est encore plus difficile. Il y a une pléthore de sites – des bons et des moins bons. Qu’est-ce qui me conviendrait ?

Mais il y a un refrain que j’entends toujours. Le voici : « Apprenez le français rapidement et facilement. », ou « Apprenez le français en 3 semaines. »

Aujourd’hui, je vais vous dire la vérité toute crue : NON, vous ne pouvez apprendre le français ni rapidement ni facilement. Ne vous y trompez pas, ne soyez pas dupe !

Dites « non » au français rapide – c’est un mensonge – et dites « non » au français facile.

Franchement, qu’est-ce que peut être facile dans une langue qui doit associer les 3 voyelles E, A et U pour faire le son simple O, ou qui a un mot – PLUS – qui veut dire à la fois « davantage » et « pas » ?

Donc, je ne dirais pas que je vous offre des cours longs et difficiles à FrenchHour. Cela vous ferait probablement partir illico. Mais ne vous laissez pas berner.
