What does the French expression ‘ à présent ‘ mean? How do you say ‘ now ’ in French? How is it used in a sentence?

à présent – at present. In everyday French, à présent means ‘now, currently, now that’. Synonyms of à présent are maintenant, actuellement – which doesn’t mean ‘actually (it’s a false cognate).

There are 2 expressions with à présent:

dès à présent – as of now

jusqu’à présent – up to now, until now

• « À présent, je peux parler français car je travaille assidument depuis un an.  »
  • “Now I can speak French because I have been working hard for a year.”
