3 francs 6 sous – Mot du Jour

3 francs 6 sous – 3 francs/3 quids 6 pence.  The Franc used to be the currency before the Euro came along in 2002. The sou used to be the currency even before that.

The expression pour 3 francs 6 sous means that it’s ‘really cheap’, ‘for a song’.

• « Tu pourras trouver des courges pour 3 francs 6 sous aux halles ces jours-ci. »
  • “You’ll find squash for a song at the covered market these days.”
